The Rol Off Wedding

Where to Find Experienced Wedding Vendors

Today, we’re not afraid to share some unconventional opinions. Here are some alternative places where you can find experienced wedding vendors. While popular platforms may lead you to believe otherwise, websites like The Knot and WeddingWire may not be the best options when searching for reliable vendors in the wedding industry.

Here are a few reasons why we recommend exploring other avenues:

Overwhelming number of vendors

Platforms like The Knot and WeddingWire boast a vast pool of vendors. However, we’ve learned as wedding planners that having an abundance of options doesn’t necessarily make the decision-making process easier. Our role is to alleviate the burden for couples, but the filters provided by these platforms often make it challenging to narrow down your search effectively.

Pay-to-play model

Experienced wedding vendors, who have established reputations, don’t typically engage in paid advertising on these platforms. Why? Well, these platforms tend to entice new vendors into long-term and expensive advertising contracts. They then encourage vendors to gather reviews on their platform to receive annual “awards” based on the number of reviews obtained. As a result, many vendors who appear at the top of your search results are actually new to the industry and may lack the necessary experience and reliability.

Limited direct communication

Most vendors prefer to receive inquiries directly through email or their own website to ensure efficient and comprehensive communication. However, reaching out to vendors via WeddingWire or The Knot using their suggested templates may not yield satisfactory responses. Moreover, these platforms often encourage contacting multiple vendors simultaneously, which can leave you feeling overwhelmed and make it difficult to establish a personal connection.

If you still choose to use The Knot or WeddingWire to find experienced wedding vendors, we recommend focusing on vendors listed as “$$$” and above. These vendors are more likely to be reliable, experienced, and professional. Vendors advertising “$$” or “$” tend to be newcomers in the industry, lacking substantial experience and dependability. We discovered this during a recent test with a client searching for a florist. With a smaller budget, we reached out to 10 different floral designers until we found someone who truly understood and met her specific requirements.

In conclusion, while The Knot and WeddingWire may be popular platforms, it’s worth exploring alternative options to find experienced wedding vendors. Don’t limit yourself to these platforms alone and be open to exploring other resources that may better align with your needs and preferences.
